Legislature passes flawed crossbow bill.  Officers, Directors and WVBA Legislative/DNR Rep met with Director Jezioro and other members of his staff after the game commission meeting and informed them of the flaws – urged them to have Governor Manchin veto the bill.  Governor signs bill into law despite flaws creating the potential for WV to be in violation of American Disability Association (ADA) laws.

Other special EVENTS, AWARDS, HAPPENINGS

  • WVBA celebrates 25 year milestone as an Association (formed in 1980)

  • WVBA instructs over 2,500 youth during 2005 year in shooting of archery equipment at various NWTF Jakes Day events, Youth Camps, Boy Scout events and DNR NHFD at Stonewall Jackson.

  • City of Charleston establishes first urban deer hunt management practice.  City of Charleston council members provided information by Larry Lawson on safety and provides expert consultation on how to improve the proposed city ordinance.  Program was limited but generally perceived as effective as no injuries were reported nor cases of wounding.  Hopefully program will be expanded on in the coming years and restrictions loosened a bit.

  • Bowhunter Education Class taught at Bowhunting EXPO at Poca River Hunting & Fishing Club.  Instructor: Larry Lawson; Apprentice Instructors: Glenn Jones, George Coleman and Ed McMinn.

  • Reverend Stacy L. Groscup, WVBA Hall of Fame Member (one of the first 3 inductees), passed away on September 19, 2005.
