Greetings bowhunters:
It has been a very busy summer already. You association has been promoting our sport in a number of ways and introducing the sport of archery to a lot of youth by ways of Jakes Days, Fishing Derbies, church camps, community days, etc. In just a few days on July 24th we will be hosting our inaugural Spike Camp for youth 14 and under designed to pass on some education and woodsmanship skills to these future bowhunters.
The very next weekend (July 31 and August 1) we are conducting a bowhunter education course in Wheeling followed by a one day 3D bow shoot. The Wildlife League of Ohio County is sponsoring these events and we are looking forward to a great weekend. In addition to this, Cabela's has contacted us about helping with thier Archery Classic Weekend that same time period. So, we will also be running a youth range right there at the Cabela's store to introduce more people to the fun of archery and bowhunting. We are always looking for help at these events so if you live in the area give us a call and volunteer a few hours of your time. I can tell you for anyone helping at Cabela's we can get you a vendor discount of up to 25% for your purchases during that weekend.
Lastly, I would like to announce that we are accepting applications for our Archery in the Schools grants. The guidelines for this grant have been revised and we encourage all schools who have needs to apply by the deadline. Also, if your children's school is not participating in this great program we encourage you to contact your school's principal and the DNR at 304-558-2771 to begin a dialogue to get the program started. This is a tremendous program with many benefits other than just teaching archery. You can find the new AIS grant guidelines under the 'NEWS' heading on this website.
Until next time...
